The Functional Singer

Last updated: 16/12/2025

These Terms & Conditions apply to all lessons, programs, sessions, and services offered by The Functional Singer. By booking or participating in any session or program, you agree to the terms outlined below.

1. Scope of services

The Functional Singer provides vocal training and artistic coaching for adult singers (21+).
Services are educational and skill-based in nature and do not constitute medical treatment, psychotherapy, or voice therapy.

2. Eligibility

All services are offered exclusively to adults aged 21 and over.
Lessons and programs must be booked by the participant themselves and cannot be purchased on behalf of another person.

3. Programs, commitment, and structure

The work offered is progressive and cumulative.

  • A minimum 5-week commitment is required to continue beyond the initial Vocal Clarity Session.

  • One-off or occasional lessons are not offered.

  • Casual lessons are available only to graduates of one of the programs, at the discretion of The Functional Singer.

4. Bookings and payments

  • All sessions and programs must be paid in advance.

  • Prices are listed on the website or provided directly at the time of booking.

  • Online programs may be priced in USD; Auckland-based programs are priced in NZD, unless otherwise stated.

5. Cancellations and rescheduling

  • Sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice.

  • Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged in full.

  • Missed sessions are not refundable.

6. Practice and participation

Progress depends on active participation.

  • Clients are expected to practise regularly between sessions, as outlined in Studio Policies.

  • Results are not guaranteed, as progress depends on individual commitment, consistency, and circumstances.

7. Health, voice care, and professional boundaries

Clients are responsible for informing The Functional Singer of any known vocal health conditions.

If a diagnosed vocal pathology is present, clients are expected to work in parallel with a qualified voice therapist or medical professional. Vocal training does not replace medical or clinical care.

The Functional Singer reserves the right to pause or discontinue work if continuing would fall outside a safe or ethical scope of practice.

8. Online sessions

For online sessions, clients are responsible for:

  • a stable internet connection

  • suitable equipment

  • a quiet and private environment

Technical issues on the client’s side do not guarantee rescheduling or refunds.

9. Illness and in-person sessions

If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of illness (including colds, flu, COVID-19, or other contagious conditions), in-person sessions must be moved online. This is to protect the health and wellbeing of both parties.

If you attend an in-person session while unwell or without disclosing symptoms, I reserve the right to move the session online or cancel the session at short notice.

10. Conduct and right to refuse service

All participants are expected to engage respectfully and responsibly.

The Functional Singer reserves the right to refuse, pause, or discontinue services if behaviour, communication, or circumstances make the working relationship unsafe, unethical, or misaligned.

11. Intellectual property

All materials, exercises, and methods shared during sessions or programs remain the intellectual property of The Functional Singer and may not be reproduced, recorded, or distributed without permission.

12. Changes to terms

These Terms & Conditions may be updated from time to time. The most current version will always be available on this website.
