Studio Policies

A note on how this work functions

This work is designed as a progressive, adult-focused process. These policies exist to support clarity, consistency, and a respectful working relationship — so the work can unfold effectively for both of us.

Adult-only container

All work at The Functional Singer is designed exclusively for adult singers (21+), at any stage of adult life.

Lessons and programs must be booked by the singer themselves. Sessions cannot be purchased as gifts for others, as this work requires personal readiness, consent, and commitment.

Commitment & structure

This work is cumulative and builds over time. For that reason:

  • A minimum 5-week commitment is required if you wish to continue after the initial Vocal Clarity Session.

  • One-off or occasional lessons are not offered.

  • Casual lessons are available only to graduates of one of my programs, once a solid foundation has been established.

This structure exists to support real, sustainable progress rather than fragmented or surface-level work.

Practice expectations

Regular practice is essential for progress.

  • If you are taking weekly lessons, you are expected to practise at least two times per week between sessions.

  • If lessons are less frequent, a minimum of three practice sessions per week is expected.

This work is not passive. Progress comes from consistent, mindful application of what we explore in lessons.

Health, voice care, and scope of practice

This work prioritises healthy coordination and functional voice use. Many adult singers arrive with tension, compensations, or challenging past experiences around singing, and these are approached with care and respect.

If you have a diagnosed vocal pathology (such as nodules, polyps, or ongoing medical voice conditions), you will be expected to work in parallel with a qualified voice therapist or medical professional. Vocal training does not replace clinical voice therapy or medical care.

If there are clear indications of a possible vocal pathology and you choose not to seek appropriate assessment or treatment, I reserve the right to pause or decline ongoing work. This boundary exists to protect your vocal health and to ensure the work remains ethical, safe, and within my professional scope of practice.

Online and in-person sessions

Lessons may take place in person or online, depending on the program and circumstances.

For online sessions:

  • You are responsible for a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space.

  • Please log in on time and be fully present for the session.

For in-person sessions:

  • Please arrive on time (but not earlier, as I will be teaching the previous student or taking a brief break between students) and allow the full session to unfold without interruption.

Respectful communication

This work relies on mutual respect, openness, and clear communication.

I reserve the right to pause or discontinue work if the container no longer feels aligned, respectful, or supportive of healthy progress.

A final note

This work is for adults who are ready to engage with their voice thoughtfully, consistently, and with curiosity. Clear structure allows the work to stay grounded, effective, and meaningful.
